TengTeX

What's TengTeX?

It's a package for writing with tengwar, obviously! You only have to choose a font and a translation schema (strictly dependent on the language you write in) and then write. It provides modes for Quenya and Sindarin (with tehtar and full vowels) as they were written near the end of the Third Age, and some options to tune its translating engine according to some variations seen in the sources (so that you can also easily starting typesetting in Westron or Black Speech with a single command). There's still no support for other languages or really older orthography (no tyelpetéma, almost no tengwa with extended telco, but thúle, ñoldo, ñwalme etc. are included).

What do I need?

Well, you need a tengwar font, of course. TengTeX uses four (three, actually) fonts:

For these last two families you must have the Sauter distribution, which can be found starting from the TUG home page.

Then you need only two other things: a working TeX system and the METAFONT program to generate the chosen fonts at needed resolution. If you prefer Type1 fonts then have a look here: there are some (still experimental) packages containing the abovementioned fonts in Type1 format.

Clarification

This page is not the primary repository of TengTeX and I'm not its author. I simply like it, use it and think it's a wonderful package. I don't want to spoil Ivan of his work and glory (far from it!); I just hope to be able to add something useful to TengTeX once in a while.
